For me, that looked like finding the energy to make myself a solid lunch. As a horticulturist, winter can be tough. The lack of sun and grass beneath my toes really gets me down at times, and it’s so easy to just reach for a snack—or two, or three—rather than take the time to cut veggies and prepare a meal.
Being snowed in, and having to cancel my classes has had me feeling like I was on a merry-go-round, in full spin until the universe grabbed the bar—sending my mind into a dizzy mess. But after a day of meditation, I finally found my footing again, reaching clarity on so much that had been weighing on me.
As a full-time practitioner, it’s easy to give to others—especially when my work is tied to it. But learning to slow down, to hit the pause button without guilt, and remember the flow has been such a practice. I don’t have to go, create, record, write, meditate, or practice—it happens naturally, it’s my nature, it’s what my heart wants. I can simply be where I am, and trust that my heart will guide me where I’m needed when the time is right.
I know that trusting ourselves can be a challenge, and not everyone feels able to pause and reflect like this. If that’s you, remember that it’s okay. We’re all on our unique journeys, and sometimes taking even the smallest step—like acknowledging what you need—can be a profound start.
