After yesterday’s class, we worked a lot on our shoulders, and my muscles are definitely feeling the love today! Sometimes, after using our muscles in complex ways during yoga, they can feel a bit tender as they rebuild and strengthen. I found myself feeling that tenderness in my shoulders and remembered something simple but so effective—I have a massage setting on my showerhead! So, I decided to indulge in it for quite a bit of time, and let me tell you, it felt amazing.
It reminded me how important it is to tend to our bodies after yoga, so I wanted to share a few self-care techniques I use to support my muscles and help them recover:
1. Hot Shower + Massage Setting: As I mentioned, the massage setting on the showerhead is a game changer for me. It helps relax tight muscles and feels incredibly soothing. Don’t have this setting? No worries! Simply give yourself permission to enjoy some extra time in the shower and let the hot water work its magic on your muscles.
2. Warm Bath: A warm bath is another great way to relieve any muscle soreness. Adding some Herbal Soaking Salts or Gody Oil and putting on some soothing tunes can enhance the relaxing effects!
3. Self-Massage: I like to gently massage my muscles, especially after working through tight areas. It helps boost circulation and reduces any lingering tension too!
4. Therapeutic Massage: When I need a deeper release, a therapeutic massage is always my go-to for full-body relief and relaxation.
5. Aromatherapy: Lavender, eucalyptus, or my Aromatherapy Blends can be so calming and help ease both my muscles and my mind after a practice.
6. Herbal Salves: If you’re looking for something more natural, I absolutely love using my handcrafted herbal Joint & Muscle Salve. It’s infused with herbs like cayenne, arnica, ginger, and rosemary—perfect for soothing sore muscles.
7. Warm Compress: I also enjoy applying a warm compress to specific areas that need extra attention—such as my shoulders after a deep stretch.
Taking the time to care for our bodies after yoga truly enhances the benefits of our practice and allows our muscles to rebuild and grow stronger. Self-care is a way to honor your body, show yourself love, and create space for healing. When we nurture ourselves, it allows us to show up more fully in all areas of life.
